Integrated Mid-Scale Natural Gas Liquefaction Solution- Factors That Can Lead to a Viable Mid-Scale Project

Mid-scale LNG is generally defined as a single or multiple LNG train(s) with capacity of 1.0 to 3.0 MTPA. The main factors supporting this development is a shorter schedule and certainty of cost by using standardized designs. The mid-scale concept is being applied to both the revamp and green field projects.

The Mid-Scale LNG projects are conceptualized to realize benefit of handling manageable pieces thus reducing the risk of cost and schedule overruns. The mid-scale solution not only brings more vendors and contractors available in this space, but it also allows for more design alternates and thus more flexibility during the project execution thereby reducing the overall risk significantly. In some cases, depending on the guiding factors, multiple mid-scale trains can be a potential viable alternate for a LNG project.

The paper discusses the integrated mid-scale LNG solution in detail and its advantages in certain conditions. The integrated solution entails an off the shelf standardized pre-engineered design using the APCI SMR / DMR technology for Liquefaction and Technip Energies design for Pre-Treatment section. The paper discusses few case studies along with risk based economic analysis and illustrates the factors, if realized, that can lead to a viable Mid-scale LNG development in certain cases.
