Does process intensification reduce feed flexibility? This presentation compares and discusses the feed flexibility between a Two-Column design and a Dividing Wall Column (DWC) design for Reformate Fractionation. DWCs are known to reduce capital cost, energy consumption, and plot space. These benefits can easily save projects in the short-term. However, DWCs are fine-tuned to make specific product cuts. This process intensification inherently reduces the feed operability range. This effect begs the question of how much of a reduction. The case study discussed should reveal insight into these questions.
