The chemical industry has been confronted with innumerous challenges. Some of them have been boiling over the past few decades, such as increasing fluctuation in commodity prices, shrinking margins and ageing infrastructure. Covid-19 has brought to bear scenarios that were not as imminent, namely deglobalization and feedstock shortages. Amidst what some would call an unsettling situation, data analytics creates opportunities to offset these challenges. Leading chemical companies have pursued vertical data integration of their industrial (OT) and corporate (IT) systems. SAS enables those companies in their task to translate data into meaningful insights focusing on costs reduction, productivity improvement and market growth. In this presentation, SAS will show examples of success stories which touch upon different value drivers: OEE, energy efficiency, yield/throughput, and serviceability. In addition to that, SAS will also present lessons learned during its 44-year quest to democratize data analytics and make analytics accessible from the process engineer to the data scientist.
