Process Innovation in Bioseparations

Chair(s)

Heldt, C., Michigan Technological University

Co-chair(s)

Braatz, R., Massachusetts Institute of Technology

A tremendous effort is being invested to foster flexible, cost-effective, and high-throughput processing of traditional biologics and novel modalities - moving towards intensified processes. This session will cover topics in all areas of innovative improvements to bioseparation processes. This includes those that incorporate fundamentals, modeling, machine learning, big data, process analytics, and data science to improve separation efficiency, process efficiency, reliability, and control. This session also invites talks that share experiences and solutions during process development and process improvement efforts, such as those that highlight innovative high-throughput strategies, continuous processes, sustainable operations, scale-down and scale-up studies. In addition to experimental and theoretical insights, contributions that feature a discussion of risk, economics, regulatory impact, and other production metrics based on bioseparation process innovations are also covered.
