The majority of products produced in the chemical process industries either involve particles in their processing or are in particulate form in their final state. Lack of knowledge of how particles behave differently than fluids often results in a loss of production, poor product quality, and failures in process and equipment design. Despite the pervasiveness of particles in processes, the extent of particle technology education in typical chemical engineering programs in the US is lacking. However, efforts have been made to address this gap in particle technology education in terms of courses, textbooks and other educational materials, and even degree programs. This talk will review the current status of particle technology education in the US.
