A one-step ethoxylation of palm stearin with ethylene oxide catalyzed by Mg-Al composite was investigated. The occurrence of the expected reaction is identified by FT-IR and emulsifying ability. Catalyst type and Reaction temperature were investigated in the paper, and the melting point of the reaction product changed by a different ratio of raw materials were discussed. The experimental result shows that when the mole ratio of EO to palm stearin is 6 : 1, the lowest melting point of the reaction product is 19.8 oC.
