Heterogeneous nucleate boiling and departure is approached here using detailed CMFD simulations, namely with the help of interface tracking methods (level set method). The interface is captured and the corresponding interphase heat transfer (jump in energy) is directly simulated by integrating the energy flux-balance around the interface. The objective of this work is to develop a time-coarse-grained model that represents only the later stage of nucleation and smooth out its early stage, which is prohibitively expensive.
