Workshop Title: Additive Manufacturing- Principles and Recent Advances

Instructor: Dr. Amy Peterson, UMass Lowell

Overview: Additive manufacturing (AM) is an increasingly important aspect of modern manufacturing. AM offers the potential for  preparation of complex structures that could not previously be achieved, or which could only be achieved with significant waste. In this workshop, we will discuss the main categories of AM technologies, with a focus on those used with polymer feedstocks. Applications in medicine, aerospace, catalysis, food, energy, and protective structures will be highlighted. Relations between the processing parameters of printing systems and properties of printed parts will be discussed. Challenges including void formation, anisotropic properties, residual stresses, warpage, and interlayer adhesion will be discussed.
