Meeting Summary:

Bob Dowd, Jason Giacomelli, and Ben Boyer, all part of the Process Technology Team at Philadelphia Mixing Solutions Ltd. (PMSL), will give us a presentation tour of their R&D mixing facility.
In the R&D tour, PMSL will demonstrate gas-liquid mixing in tall aspect ratio vessels. This is relevant to industries which use biological aerobic processes to manufacture a desired chemical product such as penicillin. In design and scale up of gas-liquid mixing, the goal is to disperse the gas completely and ensure the liquid phase is uniformly mixed. The agitator must operate at a minimum speed to disperse the gas and control the flow pattern. PMSL will demonstrate the different gas-liquid dispersion regimes and demonstrate the measurement of the volumetric liquid-side mass transfer coefficient (kLa). This will be demonstrated through modeling as well as lab testing.
PMSL’s team of R&D mixing experts holds multiple patents and utilize groundbreaking modelling techniques to find breakthroughs in mixing technology.
