Innovation by Design Summary
Our engineering education teaches us how to solve problems. That education does less to prepare us for determining which problems to solve. Often, the difference between those viewed as “ innovative engineers” versus “average engineers” is not differences in their mathematical problem solving ability but rather in their problem defining ability. This presentation covers 5 real world examples where problem defining led to substantial cost savings and profit improvements. The goal is to highlight the importance of problem definition and its relationship to innovative solutions.
