Abstract: In 1982 Fred Fricke used forensic techniques to establish an experimental profile of the cyanide used in the Infamous Tylenol tampering incident that killed seven persons in Chicago. The FDA become more involved with Forensic analysis and in 1990 established the Forensic Chemistry Center (FCC). Every year the FCC receives samples from the international product tampering of foods including baby food, eye drops, insulin, and dietary supplements and many unintentional contaminations such as seafood during the Deep Water Horizon Oil spill. The FCC is also responsible for analysis and detection of counterfeit pharmaceuticals and “natural” supplements which may contain undisclosed pharmaceutical active ingredients.
