Scott Klara selected for 2020 Management Award

[June 16, 2020] Scott Klara was named as recipient of this year’s Management Award. The award will be presented at the AIChE Annual Meeting to be held in November 2020 in San Francisco, California.

 

Scott Klara is currently Associate Vice President for Strategic Partnerships at the University of North Dakota’s Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC). He assists in building and growing dynamic relationships with industry, government, and research entities globally in support of the EERC’s mission to provide practical, pioneering solutions to the world’s energy and environmental sustainability challenges. He has over 32 years of diversified engineering and management experience that spans a broad spectrum of areas, including electric power generation, advanced separation processes, process control, oil and gas production, fossil energy conversion processes, and simulation/systems analysis. Before joining the EERC, Scott served in numerous leadership positions with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), which included Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary with DOE’s Office of Fossil Energy, Acting Director of the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL), and Deputy Director at NETL, leading to retirement in 2016. Since his retirement from the DOE and before joining EERC on a full time basis, Scott consulted with the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School Of Engineering to mentor young staff and to assess/align research competencies primarily in energy related areas and leverage his experience including interactions with government agencies and industry.

 

Scott earned both a BS and MS in Chemical Engineering in 1983 and 1984, respectively. He is a registered Professional Engineer and has published or co-published numerous papers and talks. His federal government agency position has involved many Congressional Staff Briefings and Congressional Testimonies. Over his career, he has received a distinguished service award and many technical writing awards.
