[February 4, 2024] We learned very late about the passing last year of our good friend and colleague George Newcomb. George was a very nice person, liked by everyone, although he is likely most remembered by his colleagues in the AIChE Management Division for his great dedication to enhancing the Division’s existing Awards program. He responded to a call for volunteers to support the Management Division around 2014. He served as a Director of the division from 2015 to 2017, and at the same time volunteered to help with the Awards Committee. He was quickly convinced to serve as Chair of that committee, a role he had until 2021. He was instrumental in making the Management Division awards become more recognizable and prestigious. The Management Division and award recipients owe a lot to George for his commitment to our awards program and making it what it is today. George gave the existing program a strong process and helped establish procedures that would carry on after his leadership ended. Everyone has great memories of our interactions with him and we miss him already. He passed away on July 20, 2023 after celebrating 57 years of marriage with his wife Elaine in May of that year.
We are sorry for the loss of such an outstanding person and a great contributor to the mission of AIChE and the Management Division.
