Gayle J. Gibson, retired Director of Engineering for E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company, Inc. was selected as the recipient of the 2018 Management Award. The award will be presented at the AIChE Annual Meeting on October 30, 2018 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Gayle will give a talk titled “Leading Engineering through Company Transformation”, which deals with her role to ensure strong engineering capability during the DowDupont merger and planned evolution into three separate companies. The Management Award is sponsored by The Dow Chemical Company.
As the award criteria states, she has “demonstrated outstanding accomplishments and achievements that have markedly benefited both society and the profession of chemical engineering”. Her achievements are reflected in a 34 year career, retiring at the end of 2017 as the head of Engineering at DuPont. Contributions included engineering design, process engineering, research and development, product and process development, manufacturing supervision, market development, business strategy, and growth and supply chain improvement. She served as a Director reporting to the CEO prior to becoming Director of Engineering.
A certified Six Sigma Champion, Gayle holds a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from Texas A&M University and a Master of Business Administration from the European University in Geneva, Switzerland. During her career she benefited society and the profession including:
- Engineering Advisory Council for Texas A&M University
- As committee member, guided implementation of K-12 engineering education (National Academy of Engineering)
- Board member, National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering
- Active in AIChE as a member, speaker, fund raiser, and Fellow and lifetime member
- Speaker and volunteer in various groups or activities such as girl scouts, STEM, Society of Women Engineers, and sponsor of DuPont LGBT resource group
