Congratulations to Dimitrios Varvarezos for receiving the 2025 Computing Practice Award!
Dr. Dimitrios Varvarezos is CVP and Chief Technologist at Aspen Technology, now a business unit of Emerson Electric. Prior to the Emerson acquisition, he was co-Chief Technology Officer. He is now responsible for leading, formulating, and supporting the technology strategy of AspenTech, including technology planning, research activities, technical collaborations, M&A technology due diligence, and the promotion of innovation culture. Dimitrios joined AspenTech through the company’s acquisition of DMCC in 1996. During his tenure, he has held both technical and leadership positions in the R&D and professional services organizations for key products areas including Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain. He pioneered the development and lead the successful deployment of novel modeling and optimization solutions in the areas of process design and synthesis, real-time optimization, refining and petrochemical planning, scheduling, and blending, as well as primary and secondary product distribution.
Dimitrios is a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), the inventor of many US and international patents, and the award-winning author of numerous peer-reviewed articles. He has been the organizer and invited speaker at international conferences, and the recipient of several academic and industrial awards. He holds a BSE degree in Chemical Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and a Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.
