
More than 3,500 refining and petrochemicals industry professionals and academics from over 30 countries attended the 10th Middle East Refining & Petrochemicals Conference and Exhibition (Middle East Petrotech 2016) that took place on September 26–29, 2016 in Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Center. Having been organized by Saudi Aramco, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation and Subsidiaries, the conference was inaugurated by HE Shaikh Mohammad Bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, followed by remarks from distinguished speakers such Amin H Nasser, president and CEO, Saudi Aramco; Nizar Al-Adsani, CEO, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation; and Prince Faisal Bin Turki, Advisor, Saudi Arabia Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources (EMIR).

In addition to the 4-day technical conference, 3-day exhibition running in parallel were taken place as well at the exhibition hall. 120 exhibitors from various countries were featured with a grand opening on the 27th of September. This provided an excellent platform to represent both Saudi local section of the AIChE and Saudi YPC.

Considered amongst the largest gathering point of the oil and gas industry in the Middle East, a number of delegates from varies backgrounds attended the event. With many visitors at the booth, PetroTech 2016 provided a gateway to meet with new professionals from downstream industry worldwide and representatives from companies from across the region for collaborative initiatives. Taking place under the theme of ‘Teaming Up for Excellence: Industry, Government and Education’, the objective of YPC’s participation in the conference was to increase its portfolio in terms of increasing YPC membership database as well as collaboration opportunities with industry leaders, academia and downstream oil professionals.


A raffle draw was conducted alongside the exhibition within the YPC booth. 88 participants were randomly chosen for a puzzle that was organized earlier. The winner was awarded a smart watch at the end of the draw. The Chairman of the technical committee, Mr Eyad Basrawi commended the organizers on the job well done in organizing the booth and the very active participation of the young professionals. The event turned out to be a valuable meeting for the young professionals as a whole and the networks gained by the end of the show was very rewarding filled with new connections and friends alike.
