Introducing Colin Young, New 2017-2018 YPC Vice Chair

Hello everyone!

My name is Colin Young and I am just beginning my term as Vice Chair of the Young Professionals Committee. First, I would like to thank everyone. This is an honor for me, and I am really excited to work with Jon Haughton and Chris Lowe (current YPC and Past Chairs) and to be a part of such a fun and successful group. I look forward to collaborating with you and sharing in many successes during the next couple of years, as both Vice Chair and Chair.

A bit about me: I just started the 6th year of my PhD at the University of Utah, where I research diseases diagnostics. My research has primarily been trying to create new test platforms to detect pancreatic and liver cancers, as well as tuberculosis. In my past, I have taught high school, and helped develop an extensive K-12 outreach program in the Chemical Engineering Department at the University of Utah, which has visited thousands of students.

My main goal as Vice Chair and Chair is to continue to grow YP participation within AIChE. I am hopeful that as YPs reach their middle careers that they will have the experience necessary to continue as leaders of the Institute. To that end, I am looking to provide feedback and support for the ideas that YPs have for improving programming, events, and activities that benefit and highlight YP achievement. If you have an idea you’re passionate about, and want to become involved in creating activities and programs for other YPs in AIChE, YPC is for you.

Please get in touch if you have concerns, questions, or comments. I cannot wait to see what sorts of great ideas you have to improve YP’s experience within AICHE. Thank you again for your support, and see many of you at Annual in Minneapolis!
