Prof. Shalivahan, Director IIPE, Visakhapatnam, and Professor of Applied Geophysics at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad and was Visiting Research Professor at the Colorado School of Mines, USA. He earned his Ph.D. in Applied Geophysics (2000) from IIT (ISM), Dhanbad.

He is the SEG, USA Honorary Lecturer (2024), SEG, USA Outstanding Educator (2020), INSA Best Teacher (2021), and National Geoscience Awardee (2010), Government of India. His research focuses on energy resources, and pioneered the use of petrophysical characterization in mineral exploration. 

He is spearheading India’s Natural Hydrogen Mission policy and, as Advisor to India’s National Magnetotelluric Studies, oversees comprehensive subsurface mapping to advance energy security and resource exploration across the country.

As Dean (R&D) at IIT (ISM) he established the TexMin Foundation (Technology Innovation in Exploration and Mining), under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS), Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India. The foundation serves as a technology innovation hub, advancing mineral exploration and sustainable mining, fostering startups and capacity building, promoting energy sovereignty, and strengthening India’s leadership in geoscience and energy innovation.

At IIPE, he is shaping Government of India’s only energy-centric academic Institute of National Importance, fostering the next generation of researchers, and spearheading innovation to advance the nation’s energy sovereignty. He secured a $4.5 million Hydrogen Generation project—the only academic-led hydrogen project of this scale in India.
