Dr. Mark P. Brynildsen is Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Princeton University and a core faculty member of the Omenn‑Darling Bioengineering Institute, where he also holds an associated faculty role in the Department of Molecular Biology. His research integrates experimental and computational systems biology with synthetic biology to unravel mechanisms of bacterial persistence and immune evasion—crucial for addressing antibiotic resistance. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemical and Biological Engineering from UCLA in 2008 and his B.S. from Rutgers University in 2002. Following his Ph.D., Dr. Brynildsen was an HHMI Postdoctoral Associate at Boston University (2008–2010). His honors include the 2022 Graduate Mentoring Award (McGraw Center), the 2021 NJ Health Foundation Award, the 2020 Innovation in Undergraduate Education Award at Princeton, the 2016 Engineering Council Excellence in Teaching Award, the 2015 Howard B. Wentz Jr. Junior Faculty Award, and an NSF CAREER Award (2015–2020).
