Lothar Steidler

Independent Expert

Lothar Steidler invented and pioneered the concept of using live, GMO Lactococcus strains for therapeutic intervention through local delivery of bioactive proteins. Designed and engineered the GMO bacterial strain that was used in the first-ever human intervention study of its kind. Subsequently, developed a synthetic biology platform for Lactococcus, enabling high-throughput construction of clinical-grade strains. Led the development of manufacturing technologies, taking them from prototype to industry-standard processes. This work has supported the successful conduct of four clinical studies utilizing live, GMO Lactococcus strains, and targeting inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, all in compliance with ICH guidelines.
