Dr. Kannan Tinnium has 28+ years Global R&D experience developing key technologies in Power Electronics, Power Systems, Energy Storage, Distributed Generation, Renewable Energy and Smart Grids.
He is currently the Head of Energy Storage Center of Excellence with Schneider Electric R&D in USA. In this role, he is responsible for driving technology development of Energy Storage including new chemistries for behind the meter applications including datacenters collaborating across internal/external partners/R&D labs/Univs/Govt organizations. He is serving as an Industry Advisor for Long Duration Energy Storage Consortium led by the National Labs. He is also supporting the Datacenter Solutions business of Schneider Electric as the Innovation & Transformation Leader.
He spent ~3 years as the Senior Vice President – R&D with “Luminous Power Technologies – Schneider Electric” in India where he was responsible for shaping the technology and product development of Power Backup solutions at Luminous.
He spent ~17 years with GE Global Research Center holding various leadership positions in India and USA in the areas of Power Electronics, Power Systems, Energy Storage and Smart Grids towards applications in Electrical Power Networks, Microgrids and Transportation.
He spent 4+ years with Entergy Services Inc., one of the largest electric power utilities in the USA, where he was responsible for evaluating new technologies to the transmission system, performing technical studies and recommending solutions.
He served as the chair of the IEEE – Power and Energy Society, Bangalore Chapter, 2014-15 and was the recipient of the IEEE PES Bangalore Outstanding Engineer Award in 2020.
He obtained his B.Tech from Osmania University, Hyderabad in 1991 and M.S & PhD in Electrical Engineering from Tulane University, USA in 1993 and 1996.
