Dr. Juan Colberg is the Pfizer Green Chemistry Program Leader and Senior Director of Chemical Technology in the Process Chemistry department, part of the Pfizer World Research and Development Organization. In his current position, he works with multidisciplinary and cross-cutting teams to direct the efforts of the Global Pfizer program in green chemistry and to guide practices in this area in the Pharmaceutical Science Discovery and Development and Commercial Manufacturing of new drugs. In his role in chemical technology he leads several efforts to evaluate the new "platform" technologies suitable for small and large-scale manufacturing of pharmaceutical products, in conjunction with academic institutions and private technology companies around the world. A former co-chair of the Pharmaceutical Roundtable of the Institute of Green Chemistry of the American Chemical Society, Dr. Colberg has remained very active in green chemistry initiatives, including the development of Pfizer's green solvent selection tool, the greener reagents guide and evaluation of green chemistry metrics. In 2002, he was part of the team awarded the EPA Presidential Green Chemistry Award. Dr. Colberg graduated from the University of Puerto Rico with a PhD in Organic Chemistry and has been working at Pfizer for more than 24 years. including the development of the Pfizer green solvent selection tool, the greener reagents guide and the evaluation of green chemistry metrics.
