Dr. Jason Trembly is the Russ Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Ohio University and Director of the Institute for Sustainable Energy and the Environment. His research focuses on environmental chemical engineering solutions that enable circular economies and low-carbon industrial transitions. Dr. Trembly leads interdisciplinary projects in carbon materials development, electrochemical nutrient recovery, and waste valorization, with applications spanning energy storage, defense, and infrastructure. His work emphasizes scalable technologies that support economic revitalization in legacy energy regions. He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and leads several federally and industry funded research initiatives. Dr. Trembly also contributes to national science and policy efforts through his service on the U.S. National Academies Carbon Utilization Infrastructure, Markets, Research and Development Committee. Prior to joining Ohio University, Dr. Trembly conducted research at RTI International and during graduate school as an ORISE Fellow at the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Energy Technology Laboratory, focusing on synthetic fuels and carbon capture and utilization R&D.
