Dr. Amy S. Espeseth is a seasoned life scientist and executive with over 25 years of experience leading teams and advancing vaccine and therapeutic discoveries, particularly in vaccines and RNA therapeutics. She is currently serving as Senior Vice President at Sail Biomedicines, where she leads both the application of Sail’s proprietary eRNA technology to the field of vaccines and an integrated Pharmacology function that supports in vivo, in vitro, and bioassay needs for both application and platform functions.
Prior to Sail, Dr. Espeseth spent over 20 years at Merck, starting as a postdoctoral scientist in the Department of Antiviral Research, and serving in positions of increasing responsibility in multiple scientific disciplines including HIV antivirals, Alzheimer’s disease, RNA therapeutics, and Vaccines. Most recently, she served as Executive Director of Infectious Disease and Vaccines, where she led discovery research on vaccine platforms and on prevention and treatment of disease caused by respiratory and herpes viruses.
Dr. Espeseth received a PhD in microbiology and immunology from Duke University and completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Virginia. Additionally, she conducted post-doctoral research at The Salk Institute for Biological Studies.
