International Student Chapter Leadership Development Travel Grant

The purpose of this award is to facilitate the participation and leadership development of international student chapter members at the Annual Student Conference and to strengthen AIChE's relationship with these future global leaders. Up to eight travel grants will be awarded to International Student Chapter leaders for the Annual Student Conference.  This Award is generously supported by The AIChE Foundation.  Developing AIChE’s international undergraduate Student Chapters is one of the cornerstone initiatives in AIChE’s plan to increase its global presence, recruit international members and serve the profession as it is practiced throughout the world.

Recipients will receive:

  • Roundtrip airfare to conference location
  • Complimentary registration to the Annual Student Conference
  • Hotel accommodations*

​*Recipients are responsible for all their ground transportation costs, visa application fees, food and drink expenses.  Please note that this is not a monetary award and AIChE will be booking all travel for the winners.  Please do not book your own travel.  Winners will be expected to attend events on schedule provided by AIChE.  If the winner wants to have time to tour the city, they should plan on scheduling additional days before or after the conference (at the winner's expense). 

The travel grant will be awarded on the basis of leadership involvement in student chapter activities, academic achievement and financial need.

Nominations must be made by the Chapter Advisor and only one nomination will be accepted from each AIChE International Student Chapter. ​

Nomination Process:

  • Advisors may nominate one exceptional student chapter leader, who will be an undergraduate in Chemical Engineering during the 2019-2020 academic year. Please note: students graduating in 2018 and 2019 are not eligible
  • The student must provide the advisor with an essay outlining Student Chapter development objectives and plans to apply and transfer the knowledge form their experience to the student members in their chapters. 
  • The student chapter must have submitted a Student Chapter Annual Report to be eligible for this award.  Note: Student Chapters who were approved after 12/31/2017 are exempt from this requirement.
