
Eric D. Vugrin is a Principal Member of Technical Staff at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Since joining the Infrastructure and Economic Systems Analysis Department in 2008, he has been the project lead for several homeland security projects that aimed to develop rigorous, mathematical methodologies for critical infrastructure analysis. Previously at Sandia, he was the technical lead for Total System Performance Assessment for the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP), the world's only licensed and operating deep geologic repository for the disposal of transuranic nuclear waste. His research interests and work at Sandia include systems analysis and modeling of national infrastructures; risk analysis; probabilistic and numerical modeling; optimal control theory and applications; and applied mathematics. Prior to joining Sandia in 2004, Dr. Vugrin received a B. S. and M.S. in mathematics from Texas Tech University and a Ph.D. in mathematics from Virginia Tech.
