Kai-Jher Tan

Kai-Jher Tan is a PhD candidate in Prof. T. Alan Hatton’s group in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Kai-Jher’s research interests lie in the design and application of redox-active materials and processes for environmental separations. Kai-Jher received the 2020 AIChE Separations Division Graduate Student Research Award in the area of adsorption and ion exchange, in part for his work on the development of a heterogeneous redox-active system for the enhanced electrochemical separation of ions in water, which was published in Advanced...Read more

Woochul Song

Woochul Song received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from School of Chemical Engineering, Sungkyunkwan University from South Korea in 2014 and 2015, respectively. After one year of internship at Korea Institute of Science and Technology, he started Ph.D. study at Penn State in 2016 and moved to the University of Texas at Austin in 2019 following his research advisor Prof. Manish Kumar. In UT Austin, he is being co-advised by Prof. Manish Kumar and Prof. Benny D. Freeman. His research has focused on molecular designs of biomimetic membranes for efficient water filtration, and currently he is...Read more

Shiqi Huang

Shiqi Huang is currently a Ph.D. candidate at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), under the supervision of Prof. Kumar Varoon Agrawal. Before moving to EPFL, Shiqi received her Master and Bachelor in Chemical Engineering from Dalian University of Technology in 2016 and 2013. Shiqi’s Ph. D. dissertation focused on single-layer nanoporous graphene membrane for gas separation. Her work on “Single-layer graphene membranes by crack-free transfer for gas mixture separation” was published on Nature Communications, confirming the high promise of the singlelayer graphene membrane for...Read more

Thien Tran

I got my both my Bachelor (2015) and PhD (2020), under the guidance of Dr. Haiqing Lin, in Chemical Engineering at University at Buffalo. My work primarily involved surface modified membranes for water purification applications. My team and I have authored a review article in Membranes about various materials that improve antifouling properties. I also co-authored another article published in Journal of Membrane Science regarding photo-responsive materials to achieve self-cleaning behavior.

I then studied the effect of water state in hydrophilic polymer on water and salt...Read more
