Glenn Fredrickson

Glenn Fredrickson’s computational field theory techniques have revolutionized the study of soft materials and complex fluids, most notably in self-assembling polymers and block copolymers. These techniques have become known as “field-theoretic simulations” (FTS) and are significant not only for their importance to molecular thermodynamics, but also for their engineering impact on directed self-assembly (DSA) — an emerging lithographic technology for semiconductor devices. Companies such as Intel and Samsung are developing their next-generation lithographic processes...Read more

David Richman

In the 1990s, as a member of AIChE’s National Capital Section, David proposed a program to familarize pre-college students with engineering concepts. He focused on a solid waste recycle program near his home in Maryland’s Montgomery County. He identified a school in his neighborhood (Parkland Middle School) and recruited colleagues to help teach a weekly after-school program called “Chemcycle.” The program related societal and environmental issues to recycling, and taught students about the engineering concepts and techniques needed to address those issues. The...Read more

James Trainham

James A Trainham, Ph.D., is chief technology officer of JDC Phosphate.  JDC is developing a disruptive technology for the production of phosphoric acid.

Before joining JDC Phosphate he was a RTI (Research Triangle Institute) International vice president and distinguished fellow, and held a joint appointment as an Adjunct Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at North Carolina State University, which he still holds today. His research focused on solar fuels and high temperature energy storage.

Previous to RTI, Trainham directed research and development,...Read more

Ashish Batra

Ashish Batra joined Dow Chemical in 2005 as a researcher in Dow’s elastomers business. His work to enhance the adhesion of polyolefins not only established him as an expert within the company, but also resulted in more than 20 patent applications.

When he moved to DowAgrosciences in 2010, the organization was launching increasingly complex crop protection formulations. As leader of formulation process development, Ashish was responsible for a team that scaled up nearly all formulation processes for crop protection, as well as the transfer of that technology to manufacturing...Read more
