Mr. Steven M. Weisser

Steven Weisser is a Senior Scientist in the Biopharmaceutical Development group at GlaxoSmithKline, where he works on downstream processing of therapeutic proteins.  In this role, he is responsible for developing and characterizing purification processes and transferring them from the lab scale to manufacturing facilities for GMP production of a biopharmaceutical product.

Dr. Shankar Vaidyaraman

Dr. Vaidyaraman is Associate Senior Consultant engineer for Chemical Product R&D at Eli Lilly and Company in Indiana. He joined Eli Lilly and worked for seven years in Marketing employing analytics to support business decisions. His current role for the past four years has been to support process definition and optimization activities within Chemical Product R&D at Eli Lilly and Company.

In this program, 4-8 annual grants of $150-$600 each are awarded to sections submitting qualified applications.

PresentationThe Project Connect Subcommittee, in conjunction with the Local Section Executive Committee, will review the applications and distribute the grants within 30 days of the deadlines.
Nomination Instructions

Each section may only receive one grant per programming year (July to June). Sections who receive the grant must submit a summary report of their funded project before they can apply for the grant in the next funding year.

The quarterly deadlines for applications are:

  • March 31st
  • June 30th
  • September 30th
  • December 31st

The Project Connect Grants for Local Sections were inaugurated in 2001 to assist local sections with their efforts to reach out to students, recent chemical engineering graduates, and new engineers.

Dr. Mark Shmorhun, Director of Scale-up and Technology Transfer at Myriant Corporation, has over 20 years of experience in the specialty chemicals and renewable fuels industry. Myriant’s Scale-up and Technology Transfer group is responsible for transitioning process technology from the bench to pilot scale to establish the engineering design basis for commercial scale process equipment and systems.
