Selection criteria include:

  1. Distinguished service of a chemical engineering nature, in heat transfer or energy conversion as a professional engineer, educator, or AIChE leader
  2. Outstanding contributions of a chemical engineering nature, in the field of design, construction, operation, or management of heat transfer or energy conversion facilities or enterprises
  3. Research or development of new processes or equipment relating to chemical engineering applications in heat transfer or energy conversion
  4. The recipient must be a member of AIChE

The award is presented once every two years.

Nomination Instructions

Rules, Criteria and Submission Requirements

  1. Applicants must be AIChE student members at the time of the nomination and be entering their third or final year of a 4 year program in Chemical Engineering or equivalent for a 5 year co-op program.
  2. Selection of winners will be based on the following criteria:
    1. The applicant’s academic record, minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0.
    2. The applicant’s leadership and participation in either the school’s AIChE student chapter or other university sponsored campus activity outlined in the leadership activities essay.
    3. Applicant’s career goals in the chemical engineering process industries as outlined in the career essay.
  3. Only students attending ABET accredited schools in the U.S, Canada, and Mexico* are eligible.
  4. Limited to one nomination per AIChE Student Chapter per year.
  5. Awardees will be notified by October 1 and will be required to provide tax informaton (Social Security Number for U.S. residents) in order to receive payment. Award prize must be claimed by December 31.
*Preference will be given to Mexican universities participating in ABET’s Equivalent Education Program
 

Instructions for submitting an application

A complete application for the AIChE John J. McKetta Undergraduate Scholarship Award must contain a copy of each of the following items (each letter should contain an original signature to be scanned and uploaded). All applications are submitted online.
 
From the student:
  • A completed application submitted online.
  • A maximum three page (750 word) essay outlining the applicant's career goals in the Chemical Engineering process industries.
  • It is preferred/ strongly encouraged that the nominee describe leadership activities in either the schools AIChE Student Chapter or other university sponsored campus activity. 
 
From the college:
  • A minimum of two letters of recommendation (in English). One nomination letter must be from the AIChE student chapter advisor, and the other from either a department faculty or technical work supervisor (internship or REU supervisor).
  • Official copy of student transcript sent (by the school) to AIChE.

It's important to read, and understand the above Rules, Criteria and Submission Requirements before submitting your application for this award. It is also recommended that you prepare your answers and have your supporting documents ready in advance of completing the online application (answers and supporting documents cannot be saved within the application before submission). Incomplete or unqualified applications will not be accepted.

Environmental Division Graduate Student Paper Award

Nomination Instructions

Selection criteria include:

  1. The graduate student must be a member of AIChE at the time of submission.
  2. The work presented must be carried out while the graduate student is enrolled at a university with an accredited chemical engineering program.
  3. The graduate student must be the primary author (faculty advisors may be co-authors).
  4. The paper must describe original research (experimental, numerical, or theoretical) or design; papers consisting of literature reviews are not permitted.
  5. The paper must be suitable for publication in a refereed journal.
  6. The paper must represent a contribution to environmental protection through the application of chemical engineering.
  7. The paper may not be submitted for another AIChE award this year.  It is permitted to submit a paper from a previous year if it has not already received an award.

Nomination for the award should include:

  • A single nomination letter detailing the student’s strengths and accomplishments
  • A single paper contributing to environmental science and engineering fundamentals or applications

Papers will be judged on quality, technical content, writing and organization. Nominations may be submitted by any member of AIChE. Faculty, Departments and graduate student research mentors are encouraged to nominate candidates. Nominations must be submitted to Dr. Chad Able (chad.able1@gmail.com) 1st Vice Chair, by July 1, 2026

Nominations are accepted anytime. Selection criteria include:

  1. No more than ten (10) awards will be presented in one year.
  2. Nomination for the award can be made by individual members or groups of AIChE, but must be sponsored by a current Board member.
  3. No group may nominate itself.
  4. Nominators should complete form "GL" and contact a potential Board sponsor.

NAMF Start-up Grant

Award

A single $30,000 grant will be offered, beginning April 15, 2013, in two annual installments of $15,000. The use of grant funds is restricted to direct research expenditures and excludes overhead, administrative charges, secretarial support, academic year charge-out, university/departmental-wide taxes on gifts and the like. The Biennial Conference of the North American Mixing Forum is held every two years.

The recipient is expected to attend the two conferences to present initial results and to present final results. Conference fees including room and board, but not travel expenses, will be waived. A signed original of the proposal, post marked by the deadline date, should be sent to: Minye Liu, NAMF President, DuPont Engineering Technology, Brandywine 8424, 1007 Market Street, Wilmington, DE 19898, USA.

The format of the application is open. Enough information should be given to enable a rigorous evaluation of the scientific merits and potential impact of the work.  The text is limited to 4,000 words including, introduction, proposed work, summary and future directions; plus a reasonable number of figures and references.

A title page, including a statement by an appropriate officer of the institute accepting the restrictions on the grant, and a two page vitae (NSF, NIH, NSERC equivalent) are additional.  A select group of finalists will be short-listed and interviewed during March 2013.  The successful applicant will be notified by April 01, 2013.  The decision of the referees will be final.  NAMF reserves the right not to award the grant if no application is judged sufficiently meritorious.
