Cell-Free Prototyping for CarbonSmartTM solutions

In pursuit of solutions to meet the needs of a growing population while reducing carbon emissions released in the process, LanzaTech is commercializing a gas fermentation platform. This platform enables the conversion of local, highly abundant, waste and low-cost resources including industrial flue gases as well as syngas generated from biomass resources. These gasses are converted into useful products including fuels, chemical building blocks for materials, and food. In 2018, LanzaTech successfully deployed a commercial-scale facility and with partners, has produced over ten million gallons of ethanol to date. We are actively developing our next generation of product molecules through the engineering of our proprietary acetogen. Working closely with our partners we are utilizing cell-free systems to reduce turnaround time of the research cycle, accelerating the path of these products toward commercial readiness. While existing cell-free systems based on model organisms has proven informative, we are also developing the first acetogen-based cell-free system to leverage chemistries and interrogate machineries absent in model organisms.
