In the energy and process industries, the integrity of process system components such as pressure safety valves, pipelines, chokes, heat exchangers is critical for maximizing system performance and uptime and ensuring worker health and safety. Several phenomena such as erosion, corrosion, vibration, thermal stress and fatigue, when not paid attention to can result in catastrophic accidents. Risks to system integrity must be addressed at the design phase and across the full lifecycle of the equipment or system in operation.

In this seminar, we will present with the help of case studies, the value of engineering simulation not just in the design but also in operating phases of a process system in order to quantify, manage and avoid integrity risks associated with process system operation. Several real-world examples of simulation techniques that were used to identify and remedy problems related to material selection, vibration, acoustics, and erosion, in process system components will be presented. We will also provide a short demo of STAR-CCM+, the primary platform used for such simulations.
