(361b) Developing and Sustaining Critical Engineering Knowledge and Expertise in a Rapidly Changing World

Over the past few years, we have witnessed the attrition of deep technical expertise and subsequent loss of technical knowledge in many companies as a result of portfolio shifts, mergers and acquisitions, headcount reductions and retirements. This talk will focus on our strategy to sustain critical knowledge and competencies in the midst of a rapidly changing corporate environment, and our approach to building the deep technical expertise needed to drive innovation and support the safety and profitability of our manufacturing assets. I will discuss how we develop a talent pipeline that enables diversity equity and inclusion, how we coach and mentor early career employees, and how we develop and sustain technical capability and manage critical knowledge through competency teams and communities of practice.
