AIChE Names New Conference Director

October 29, 2014

AIChE has announced that Kristine Chin has been named director, conferences, a newly created position combining the development of meeting content with meeting operations. Chin will join AIChE’s senior executive team.

In making the announcement, June Wispelwey, AIChE’s executive director, said that Chin’s expertise will help guide the Institute’s strategy for expanding its portfolio of conferences around the world, while assuring continued strong results for AIChE’s key meetings. Wispelwey praised Chin’s record of “growing and improving our Annual Meeting, which is the world’s largest chemical engineering research event, and our Spring Meeting and Global Conference on Process Safety.” Wispelwey also commended Chin’s implementation of process safety and chemical engineering events internationally, with a focus on specialization according to industrial importance, during her tenure.

A chemical engineering graduate of The Cooper Union School for the Advancement of Science and Art, where she earned a master’s degree, Chin joined AIChE in 2001 as editor-in-chief of Chemical Engineering Progress (CEP), AIChE’s monthly member magazine. She became publisher, as well as editor, in 2003. During her term as editor and publisher, the publication experienced a turnaround in its financial performance and a stronger emphasis on news analysis.

In 2007, Chin shifted her focus to take on the management of content development for the Institute’s meetings.

Before joining AIChE, Chin had been the editor of ePlant, as well as an editor for Chemical Engineering, then a McGraw-Hill publication. Prior to joining Chemical Engineering, she worked in an industrial research and development laboratory.
