Reverse osmosis (RO) systems are subjected to conditions that can cause fouling. Chlorine gas and bleach are commonly used as disinfectants to remediate fouling, but they can create undesirable byproducts. This article discusses some of the more common chemical alternative as well as their impact on disinfecting RO feedwater and pretreatment systems.
