Facilities that handle bulk solids can minimze the risk of combustible dust explosions by eliminating any one of the five necessary elements for creating an explosion: a combustible product, dispersion of dust, confinement of a dust cloud, an ignition source, or oxygen. When it is not practical (or even possible) to eliminate one of these factors, explosion protection must be designed into the process. This article describes explosion venting devices such as explosoin panels and flameless venting systems.
