Can Well-Configured Hot Vapor Bypass Condensers Controls Become Unstable

Hot vapor bypass is a popular pressure and condenser control method in distillation. However, this method of control suffers from frequent problems and is responsible for numerous pressure and condenser control malfunctions. Typically, these issues are due to poor configuration, related to confusion over their operating principles. When configured correctly, hot vapor bypasses usually operate effectively. Some situations have been determined where configuration is correct, but there are still operational issues. This article explains how these control systems work, and details some trouble-shooting techniques that have led to successful solutions.
