Technical presentations have the burden of presenting complex information in a straightforward way and in a limited amount of time. If the presentation is virtual, such as via Skype, WebEx, webinar, or similar, the task is doubly difficult because the audience is usually required to view technical graphics without simultaneously viewing the person. In a virtual group setting, the audience may not even get good resolution of the speaker, which muddles or eliminates nonverbal cues. This article presents best practices for overcoming the unique challenges of giving virtual presentations.
