Engineers Capture the Sun in a Box

What if you could capture the power of the sun and stockpile it to generate electricity on demand? Scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) are capturing solar energy and storing it in molten, white-hot silicon. When it’s needed later, their unique, photovoltaic (PV) system converts light emitted from the glowing metal back into electricity.
