The Viatran networking system (VNS) enables centralized wireless monitoring of sensors placed throughout any facility where measurement is critical. The VNS consists of the Viatran remote device (VRD) and the Viatran Hub (VHub). The VHub serves as the communication link for up to 10 VRDs. Each VHub sends the data to a flow computer, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system, or distributed control system. VRDs can be either process- or pole-mounted, and are powered externally or by an internal nonrechargeable lithium-ion battery that lasts at least one year. Each device supports three analog and two digital inputs and will wirelessly pass information to the VHub over a distance of up to one mile. The VHub receives messages from all of its associated VRDs and maps the data received into the assigned Modbus registers, which provides access to users.
