The ability to reduce fouling and sludge buildup from hot oil and thermal fluids can increase pump life, and improves heat transfer and plant efficiency. The use of cleaner fluids can help to reduce wear on moving parts such as mechanical seals, impellers and valves, helping to reduce unscheduled downtime and overall maintenance requirements. The Vector Series Model VB10C Thermal Fluid Filtration System continuously filters heat transfer fluids using economical glass-fiber-wound cartridges, removing contaminants down to 10 mm. System flow and pressure available from the process are used to recirculate hot oil or thermal fluid from the pump discharge through the filter; clean fluid is then returned to the suction side of the pump. The filtration system can withstand up to 150 psig (10.5 bar) of pressure and temperatures to 650°C (345°C). Flowrate and cleaning capacity is to 15 gpm (114 L/min) or more than 900 gal/h (3,405 L/h) — large enough to filter the entire volume of a smaller system several times per day. As an option, an electronic filter condition-monitoring system is available to alert plant personnel when the filter cartridge needs to be replaced.
