Valveless Chemical Treatment System

This chemical treatment system accurately meters caustic soda and other pH-adjusting chemicals for water and wastewater treatment applications. Since well water is typically acidic and damaging to distribution piping, the water’s pH needs to be raised. Caustic soda is typically added to water and wastewater using metering pumps, most often diaphragm pumps.Whereas the internal check valves of diaphragm pumps are subject to caustic soda crystallization, which affects sealing and causes backflow, this chemical treatment system uses a valveless piston technology. This design incorporates a single rotating and reciprocating ceramic piston that performs both the pumping and valving functions. The system’s sapphire-hard internal ceramics reduce the risk of degradation in accuracy over time, thereby eliminating the need to recalibrate. Its fluidics are contained in a NEMA 4X protective enclosure that can be mounted on a wall. This system measures 15.5 in. × 13.5 in. × 7 in., and weighs 14 lb. It operates using less than 100 W, which reduces energy consumption compared with similar methods.
