Marketed as an alternative to conventional shell-and-tube designs, the Twisted Tube heat exchanger is recommended for applications that require increased heat transfer with either fewer shells or a smaller exchanger. Key to the its design are helix-shaped tubes arranged in a triangular pattern, which eliminates the need for baffles. In lieu of baffles, each tube is supported by adjacent tubes, while fluid swirls freely along its length. The novel configuration, which is also recommended for retrofit bundles or exchangers, boasts lower installed costs and extended run time between cleanings.
