The Turbo-Heat-Treater thermal processor recovers mercury from powdered activated carbon (PAC), which is used to remove mercury from fluegases. The unit includes an internal electrical heating system to provide heat to remove residual mercury. A small purge of dry nitrogen is used to remove the vapor from the system, keeping fines carryover to a minimum. After processing, the stripped carbon can be reused as a sorbent many times, thus reducing the cost of PAC usage. The recovered mercury can be sold as a metal product. No secondary waste streams are generated with this technology.
