The Model VIP is a patent-pending flow conditioner designed to maximize flowmeter performance with minimal pressure drop. It combines tab-type flow-conditioning technology in a thin, insertion-panel-type device that is easy to install. Tab-type flow conditioning is said to greatly reduce pressure drop compared to alternative approaches based on tube bundles, screens and perforated plates. The Model VIP achieves needed flow conditioning just three pipe diameters downstream from a flow disturbance to achieve the symmetrical and swirl-free flow profile required by the flowmeter. This eliminates the need for long runs of straight pipe — a useful attribute in process applications whose piping arrays have many elbows, valves, tees and layout space constraints. The Model VIP provides a highly repeatable flow profile under laminar, transitional, and turbulent flow conditions. Stainless steel is standard, but other materials are available, as are a range of pipe diameters and either flange-mount or weld-in configurations.
