Reducing material costs through downgauging creates a need for higher-stiffness products. HDPE HTA 108 is a new grade of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) that has been developed to improve stiffness and barrier properties in coextrusion or monolayer polyethylene (PE) films. It also improves processability when blended with either linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) or metallocene linear low-density polyethylene (mLLDPE). With a density of 0.961, only small amounts of HDPE HTA 108 are required in LDPE, LLDPE and mLLDPE to significantly increase stiffness. The material’s relatively high melt index (0.7 g/10 min at 2.16 kg or 46 g/10 min at 21.6 kg) ensures homogeneous blending into conventional polyethylene grades for blown and cast film extrusion.
