Industrial Water Use (Withdrawals)

Industrial water use includes water used for processing activities, washing, and cooling. Major water-using manufacturing industries include food processing, textile and apparel products, lumber, furniture and wood products, paper production, printing and publishing, chemicals, petroleum, rubber products, stone, clay, glass and concrete products, primary and fabricated metal industries, industrial and commercial equipment and electrical, electronic and measuring equipment and transportation equipment. The terms “water use” and “water withdrawals” are equivalent, but not the same as Consumptive Use as they do not account for return flows.
