
Dr. Ajay Prasad is the Engineering Alumni Distinguished Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Delaware. He served as Department Chair of Mechanical Engineering from 2017 to 2023, following which he is serving as the Associate Director of the Center for Clean Hydrogen. His research interests lie in the area of clean energy including hydrogen-powered fuel cells, electrochemical gas separation and compression, and green hydrogen from electrolysis. His other interests include lithium-ion batteries, wind and ocean current energy, and energy-efficient, solar-powered buildings. Dr. Prasad founded the UD Center for Fuel Cells and Batteries and served as its director until 2017. He also directed the UD Fuel Cell Bus Program whose goal was to develop and demonstrate fuel cell powered transit vehicles and a hydrogen refueling station in the state of Delaware. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Dr. Prasad obtained his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University.
