Glycerin was used as a feedstock in an existing entrained flow gasifier located at the Institute for Clean Energy Technology at Mississippi State University. This gasifier had previously been used to gasify conventional feedstocks such as sawdust and non-conventional feedstocks such as chicken litter. Preheated glycerin was introduced into the gasifier through a spray nozzle , which discharged the glycerin into the incoming superheated steam flow. The pilot scale gasifer provides for processing of more than 100 lbs glycerin/hr to produce synthesis gas. The synthesis gas composition can be adjusted based on the steam/glycerin ratio and processing temperature. Experimental results will be presented.
