The control of pH has many very important applications in industry. The non-linearity of pH control can make it extremely challenging using conventional PID control. This presentation examines non-linear control techniques to improve feedback pH control with applications to other non-linear control challenges. We will discuss techniques including several types of variable gains, linearization with ion concentration and titration curves. Change of variable will also be discussed. The advantages and disadvantages of each technique will be presented so that you can determine how to choose between the solutions to optimize performance in the intended application.
